Pageants and parades, costumes and colour all combine in the carnival celebrations that burst out across the Caribbean each year. Antigua is no exception, with a huge party in the streets of the island’s capital, St. John’s and in Carnival City at the Antigua Recreation Ground – the home of cricket in Antigua. The two-week long festival is a celebration dating back to the early nineteenth century and the abolition of slavery.
This year, Antigua’s Carnival will take place from 25th July to 4th August. For information on attending, please talk to Palm Point’s Concierge Gillian who can arrange transport, tickets and supply with you tips on how best to enjoy the festivities.
Other events that guests may wish to get involved with include:
- A&B International Kite Festival – kite-flying is the activity of choice all over the Caribbean during the Easter period
- Annual Seafood Festival – a showcase of the abundance of excellent seafood from around the island
- Antigua and Barbuda Independence Festival – a week-long festival each November to celebrate the island’s independence
